Dwarf#

The dwarf sigil

Stone doesn't care how clever you are. It cares whether you showed up yesterday, and the day before that.

A mine foreman of Jewall

Dwarves keep to Jewall in the northern reach and judge a family by what it has built. Strong, hard to kill and thick-skinned, they share the sturdiest start in Sedia with the orcs.

How they live#

You’ll rarely see a dwarf outside Jewall. The best known one who lives elsewhere is King Mishnal Stonecleaver of Tharsis. A dwarf earns their name at the forge or in the mine, and their family name records a deed the family is still expected to repeat.

An old hatred keeps most gnomes in the northern reach working dwarven mines as slaves, and neither people has forgotten it.

Temper
Even-tempered. In hard times they fight only whoever wronged them.
Leaving
They hold on to a city longer than anyone, then leave a family at a time.
Money

Crowds
Like some room around them.
Tongue
Dwarvish, spoken from birth and known perfectly, besides common.

Only with other dwarves.

What others say#

They say the hatred is old. It isn't old. It's every morning in the mine.

The missing deed

A dwarf family’s name records a deed nobody in the family can do anymore, and the clan elders have noticed. Someone has to help them do it again before the next feast, or find out whether the founder ever did it at all.

Names#

One or two hard syllables with round vowels. If it sounds like a hammer landing, it’s dwarven. Gorbo Stonecleaver, Brom, Lohma Fireforge, Haldi Deepdelver.
