Elements#
Fire, ice, lightning and earth run through all of Urd like threads. Learn to pull them and you'll learn what you are in it.
The rode of anyone who casts. Every elemental spell or effect you cast does more damage.
Ranks and tests#
Elemental damage. Add it to the damage of every elemental spell or effect you cast: fire, ice, lightning, earth, poison, pulse and darkness. +2 at rank 1, up to +10 at rank 5. Rodes of war has the rest of its kind.
- Level20Rank 1: Initiate
+2 elemental damage
Light a candle, freeze a cup of water and call a spark in Varr's study, without breaking a window.
- Level40Rank 2: Walker
+4 elemental damage
Bring a shard of ice from the far north of New Saellem back to Tharsis, unmelted.
- Level60Rank 3: Keeper
+6 elemental damage
Calm a wild surge of magic somebody else started.
- Level80Rank 4: Warden
+8 elemental damage
Stand in the open on Mellowdeep Marsh through a lightning storm, and turn one strike aside.
- Level100Rank 5: Exemplar
+10 elemental damage
Weave four elements into one working in front of the spire's council, and hold it while they argue about it.
The master#
Magister Ilsabet Varr keeps the Mage Spire in Tharsis and teaches from its top floor, where the windows have been replaced more times than anyone has counted. She was a mageling in New Saellem before Tharsis offered her the spire.
Find Magister Ilsabet Varr at the top floor of the Mage Spire in Tharsis. Where the masters teach maps all fourteen.
How it shows#
None of this changes a roll. It’s how the people around you can tell what you walk, if you want them to.
- The air around you runs a little too warm or too cold, and it changes with your mood.
- Your hair lifts when you cast, as if a storm were coming.
Who walks it#
The classes the rode does the most for. Any class can walk it.
The rode finder ranks every rode for a class.
What others say#
The spire lost three windows last week. That was a quiet week.
Every mageling thinks the rode of elements is the shortcut. It is, and the shortcut goes through Varr's study.
The cold on the top floor
A corner of the Mage Spire’s top floor went cold last winter and has stayed cold through the summer. Varr says it’s a test that went wrong years ago, and she wants walkers who won’t ask whose test it was.
